Layer 2 networks are designed to extend Ethereum's capacity. Rollups process transactions outside Ethereum mainnet and use Ethereum for parts of their settlement or data infrastructure. Different networks make different choices, so “layer 2” is not a guarantee that every system behaves the same way.
The network name matters.
An address can look the same across networks, but balances and transaction records belong to the network on which activity happened. If a transaction took place on a layer 2, begin with that network's explorer rather than assuming it will appear as an ordinary mainnet transaction.

Always pair an address with a network name. Keep both visible in your notes, especially when comparing explorer results.
A bridge is a separate decision.
Moving assets between networks can involve a bridge. The route, waiting period, supported assets, and trust assumptions depend on the system. Do not assume an asset's ticker tells you whether it is native, bridged, or supported by a recipient.
Check the originating project's documentation and the destination network's documentation. Learn the difference between a fast interface response, a transaction being included, and settlement. The instant Ethereum guide explains why those words matter.
Choose the right question before the tool.
Are you trying to find a transaction, understand a withdrawal, compare fee components, or identify a token contract? These are different tasks. Write down the network and the action first, then follow the relevant original documentation.
